文献中のテキストが読み取れないほどの損傷である場合、要素damageは、 要素unclearをとるのが一般的である。 当該損傷部分が連続的ではない場合(例えば、文字列に被さるしみなど)、 属性groupにより、関連する複数の要素damageをま とめることができる。また、要素joinを使い、要素 damageや要素unclearをまとめることで、同じような 損傷 がある部分を示すこともできる。
